I thought about this for a while, I see his point. I think I do use “I” more than I use “U”. However being a PC user I can not give it a try, I think I can live with my U’s And I’s where they are, but If your on a Mac you may want to give it a try!

"Discard Qwerty and Azerty: Although I can touch type on both Qwerty and Azerty keyboards, I’m thinking of doing an overhaul and actually going back to a type of keyboard which is not well-known, the Dvorak keyboard. Here is a piece of history. Qwerty was actually developed in 1860s for typewriters. Notice if you are using a Qwerty keyboard that most of the time when you are writing a word, you go from one side of the keyboard to another. That was to avoid typewriters from becoming jammed by slowing the typists and making them type from two extremes. The advantage that Dvorak has over a normal Qwerty keyboard is that it is far more efficient if you have mastered it properly and most important of all, it poses less strain on your hands unlike Qwerty."

Mike Burrell a Ph.D. student at The University of Western Ontario is doing just that, he is taking Dvorak where it has never been. Mr. Burrell has adapted the dvorak layout for the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet (for use on Macs).

“I’ve taken it upon myself to make a new keyboard layout. It is a keyboard layout for the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet, inspired by the Dvorak keyboard layout. The Dvorak layout is a keyboard layout that was invented to alleviate the problems in mainstream keyboard layouts.” Read the rest here.

It’s amazing to me that people are happy typing on an outdated, inefficient keyboard just because that’s what everyone else does. Where are all the free thinkers? Surely the Mac crowd, the ‘I am different’ bunch should adopt this concept. Why, in their minds, using a ‘different’ keyboard like dvorak would only further distance themselves from the PC ‘norm’…. but sadly, no. It seems that they are perfectly happy with 1 mouse button and a horrible keyboard; even on their iphones.

So, If it’s so great, where are the qwerty advocates??(and don’t tell me it’s just too common to have advocates….. even WD40 has a fan club!
